Thank you for posting and updating this information. At our school, the International School of the Americas in San Antonio, our students are very concerned about what is happening in Darfur and Sudan. Recently Jody Williams spoke to our students about her work in Darfur and Sudan providing some new details of the suffering.

when Jody Williams came to visit my school she talked deeply about this exact subject. China should be careful in what goes on right under there noises… i am very interested in this subject. I hope that it will resolve itself and become a less difficult situation.

Considering that there is so much violence in this region, how long do they believe that it’ll take to bring the government and the rebels to get together and discuss terms? What has been done to try to get the rebels stabalized?

I think it’s great that United States is now putting pressure on both the Sudanese and Chinese government, but I can not help but think there is more that can be done. It seems that the world has turned it’s back on the Sudanese government for far to long and I feel that the sooner this genocide is tamed the better. This is definately good news, and going after the Chinese government to tame this Genocide is great, because i feel they have a lot of control over the tactics of Sudan in this genocide, seeing as that’s where they get thier weapons. I just wish it wouldn’t have taken this long for the world to pay attention.

I beleive that pressuring the Chinese government with the threat of boycotting the Olympics is a good move. I do have a problem with the fact that this is just a scare tactic and although China might change thier ways for right now who is to say that they will not go back to the way they are now. I am sure there are a couple things that the Chinese can’t change back but what is to say that with just a quick policy change China is back to backing the Sudanese government. I also believe that if all these governments do this boycott and go through with it, the boycott will just take away from the mystic that is the Olympic games. Going through with this bocott will just end up punishing the athletes who have trained for the past four years. This boycott is not a bad idea it is also not one that we should just follow through with just to fight an evil government.
